BEING

Living Our Authentic Selves
honours ourselves and others

———~———

In our busy lives, where much emphasis is placed on what we are doing, how often do we stop, reflect, and just BE?   I would like to suggest that living true to who we are is much more valuable that what we do. For instance, anyone can drive your child to soccer practice, but only you can BE the best parent you can be.

How do you want to live?

Living authentically honours ourselves and others by accepting who we were meant to be and allowing others to be the same. Honoring ourselves means that we don’t have to be perfect to be worthy and  deserving. Forgiving our past mistakes is an act of self-love and acceptance. Realizing that we did the best we could at the time is a way to forgive ourselves. It’s okay to admit when we’re wrong. We honor ourselves and are self-loving when we can tell ourselves that life is about learning and forgive ourselves for not knowing everything.

Choose to live with honesty, trust, loyalty, respect, and integrity. Healthy relationships are built on open communication, truthfulness, and understanding. With these qualities, we choose to value, love, and respect ourselves and form healthy, caring, and supportive relationships. When we treat ourselves with self-love, we bring these positive qualities into our relationship and expect to be treated with mutual love and respect. This also makes it easier to give love to others.

Practice self-love daily

Learning to love ourselves is the greatest gift we can give to our children, our spouses, our loved ones, our friends, and all others. We set an example that helps others to become self-loving as well, especially our children. Be your authentic self at all times and you give the best of yourself to the world.

Here’s a poem written by Reinhold Niebuhr that inspires me:

Serenity Prayer

God grant me the serenity
To accept the things I cannot change;
Courage to change the things I can;
And wisdom to know the difference.
